
At Rapt, we’re passionate about making Dance Films. Rapt works closely with San Francisco Dance Film Festival and creates the festival’s annual trailer.
Dance Film / Dance Film Commercial
An intricate duet bathed in light, OPEN the dance film was created from material shot for a Peerless Lighting commercial. The Open dance film commercial was lit purely by the Open Luminaire. It exposed the beautifully soft quality of the commercial lighting fixture which won Most Innovative Product of the Year from the LFI Innovation Awards.

Created by Jo Kreiter and Flyaway Productions with Director Austin Forbord, The Wait Room is a site-specific dance film honoring women with incarcerated loved ones. Engaging the ideas of waiting and weighting, The Wait Room blends oral history, dance, music and public art in an exploration of the physical, psychic and emotional burdens of prison for women with incarcerated loved ones.

Separate Sentence, is a short dance/film that explores the generational impact of incarceration and the toll on families and communities. Cast members are comprised of Bay Area performers, some of who have been incarcerated or are family members of people who are incarcerated. The film is currently being screened at film festivals, universities and conferences. Separate Sentence has won Audience and Best Film awards nationally and internationally.

(WCS) is a 13- minute dance/theater film that explores the experiences faced by those who are incarcerated. The film is a collaboration between Bay Area performing artists, some of who were previously incarcerated, Rapt Production’s Co-Founder and filmmaker, Austin Forbord, and choreographer, Amie Dowling. The piece was developed and filmed on Alcatraz Island in 2013.
Well Contested Sites has been a stimulus for conferences and panels addressing mass incarceration, racial disparities, and restorative justice. The film has been screened at over 20 universities, museums and community organizations in the U.S., as well as internationally. Screenings included panel discussions with the performers, artistic team and restorative justice practitioners. Well Contested Sites received the 2013 American Dance Festival International Screendance Jury Award and was recognized in the San Francisco Bay Guardian in its Dance Highlights of 2013.

Part dance film and part music video, “since you went” follows the story of a couple where the passing of time and the history of a relationship is measured in cups of coffee. Developed at the Djerassi Resident Artists Program, the film uses the lush, open landscape near Woodside, CA as the backdrop for a series of glimpses into nostalgia, love, loss, and a mountain of coffee cups.

Rapt Production’s Lindsay Gauthier has been editing the San Francisco Dance Film Festival’s annual trailer since 2013. It is a diverse and exciting film festival which is demonstrated in the fast paced energetic trailers.
